This is a picture of grass growing under our feet.
Mark and Jane's 1/2 acre with grass
The building of our house has started!

This is the machine that removes the grass!
Jerry the excavator operator arrives.

Our builder Tim has got right to work making a hole for the house.  It was important to get the excavator going so that we could see if we had any rock to blast.  The other houses that have been build on our side of the street had a substancial amount of rock and blasting.

Ian Shaw, our tree faller takes out a maple.

We also had to have some trees removed.
The excavation for the foundation continued for all of Monday and Tuesday.
A challenging stump

Our one rock
We were very fortunate that in all the digging we did not hit the solid rock.  We did find this one though and it was too large for the excavator to lift.  After some discussion the excavator had to dig a path to the front of the property and then it pushed the rock there.  We think we will write our street address on it.

Another tree was taken down. This was a large maple that was leaning over our neighbours house.  It turned out to have a rotten core so it was a good idea to take it down.  We plan to cut it up for the woodpile.

Mike and Mathew are employees of Tim's and they have the task of setting out the forms for the foundations.  Tomorrow the will be adding the rebar.  Hopefully the concrete will be poured on Friday.  Today we also spent some time today looking at roofing colours.
